Safety and Notes

  1. Storage: keep away from high temperature, high humidity and direct sun-light; keep tightly closed while storing.
  2. Product expiration: sealed, 12 months.
  3. Wear neoprene gloves and PVC chemical resistant suit and charcoal filtered mask to prevent direct contact and inhalation. If the skin is contaminated, wash with soap and water. If the slurry gets in the eyes, irrigate immediately with large amount of fresh distilled water or sterilize with 0.9% brine.
  4. Fire point: 102oC (method: ASTM D92). Fire fighting material: foam or CO₂ extinguisher.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Inhalation:

  • Remove to fresh air. Consult physician/medical help if respiratory is not relieved by fresh air. Give artificial respiration or oxygen if necessary.

Eye Contact:

  • Rinse eyes immediately with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes and contact physician as needed. (S26)

Skin Contact:

  • Promptly and thoroughly flush skin with plenty of water, use soap if available.
  • Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.

Ingestion:

  • Wash out mouth with water, do not induce vomiting. Consult physician.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions:

  • Extinguish naked flames. Remove ignition sources. No smoking. Avoid sparks. Evacuate the area of all non-essential personnel. Shut off leaks, if possible, without personal risk. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. Do not breathe vapor, mists or aerosols. Ventilate contaminated area thoroughly. Take precautionary measures against static discharge.

Personal protection:

  • Wear neoprene gloves, PVC chemical resistant suit with integral hood and knee length rubber safety boots. Wear full-face piece respirator with organic vapor canister. In a confined space, wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Environmental precautions:

  • Prevent contamination of soil and water. Prevent from spreading or entering into drains, ditches or rivers by using sand, earth or other appropriate barriers. Advise relevant authorities if contamination occurs.

Clean up method:

  • Absorb, or contain with sand, earth or similar inert absorbent material.
  • Shovel up and keep in a tightly closed container for disposal.
  • Put leaking containers in a labeled drum.

1. Purpose:

  • Recommend the customers how to use M-188 mainly, so that they can get the best quality in production.

4. Operation:

  1. Gear support local coating machine:
    1. The best viscosity of coating is 45~50 sec/Ford Cup #4 25℃; This product can be printed directly to the surface to be coated.
    2. First apply short-wave IR oven with wavelength 0.8~1.4 µm or use hot air oven with condition 24 kw 80℃~90℃ for curing. Afterwards, three 11 ~ 14 kw UV lamps are used. The curing speed is about 4000 ~ 6000 rpm/hr, which depends on the utilization time and irradiation height of UV lamps.
    3. The thickness of wet film is about 6 ± 1 g/m² and dry film is 5.5 ± 1 g/m².
    4. The post processing can be implemented after printing.
  2. Roller coating machine:
    1. The best viscosity of coating is 25~30 sec/Ford Cup #4 25℃. The viscosity of M-188 is 25sec / Ford Cup #4 25℃ so it can be applied directly.
    2. Three 11 ~ 14 kw UV lamps are used. The curing speed is about 40 ~ 50 m/min.
    3. The best thickness of wet film is shown as follows:

      General speaking, the dry powder may be sprayed onto the printing paper for curing and prevent overlap printing. The diameter of its particle is about 3 ~ 4 μm. Before coating, the powder removal equipment can remove about 50%~70% of powder. The most important thing is part of powder will stick with ink and become hard to be removed. So, in order to get the best coating effect, the coating layer has to cover the particles of powder. The additional wet layer of 1 ~ 2 g shall be added except the above-mentioned data, which is 6 ~ 8 g/m² of wet film. If the solid content is 95%, it can get the best coating effect.
    4. The surface tension of varnish is about 34.5 dyne/cm2. So the surface tension of dry ink had better larger than the above-mentioned surface tension.
    5. After coating, the printing paper has to be placed for more than one hour, then the post processing can be conducted. At this period, the wear resistance coefficient is about 4 lbs for more than 300 times of wear.

5. Troubleshooting:

  • A. The gloss is not good, the luminance is not enough.
    (1) Cause
    1. The paper is too coarse, and the permeation and absorbability are too strong.
    2. The coating amount is not enough, and the film is too thin.
    3. The ink on printing paper is not dried enough.
    4. Low temperature, high humidity.
    (2) Solution
    1. Increase the viscosity of varnish.
    2. Check if too much water is added or adjust the roller to increase the coating amount.
    3. Coat after the ink is dried sufficiently.
    4. Improve the operation temperature, humidity of environment.
  • B. Poor curing, Sticky surface, poor wear resistance.
    (1) Cause
    1. The viscosity of varnish is too high, and the film is too thick.
    2. The temperature and hot air is not enough in the oven track.
    3. The coating pressure is uneven, and local film is too thick.
    (2) Solution
    1. Adjust the viscosity of varnish. Use 1:1 of water:isopropyl alcohol as thinner.
    2. Increase temperature and hot air in the oven track
    3. Adjust the coating pressure of roller.
  • C. The coating is uneven with strip and orange skin etc.
    (1) Cause
    1. The viscosity of varnish is too high.
    2. The coating amount of varnish is too much.
    3. The coating roller is coarse and unsmooth.
    4. The ink is not dry, the varnish is repelled.
    (2) Solution
    1. Adjust to reduce the viscosity.
    2. Reduce the coating amount suitably.
    3. Regrind or rebuild the coating roller.
    4. Before coating, let the ink dry sufficiently.
  • D. Too much foam during coating.
    (1) Cause
    1. The viscosity of varnish is too high.
    2. The agitation is over.
    3. The amount of varnish is insufficient in varnish pan and varnish barrel.
    4. The speed of coating machine is too quick.
    (2) Solution
    1. Adjust to reduce the viscosity.
    2. Add suitable amount of anti-foaming agent.
    3. Increase the amount of varnish.
    4. Reduce the coating speed suitably.
  • E. It is difficult to clean the varnish, and the varnish is apt to coagulate.
    (1) Cause
    1. The curing of varnish is too quick.
    2. The time of shutdown is too long, and it is not cleaned in time.
    3. The ambient temperature is too high.
    (2) Solution
    1. Add the retarder or water to reduce the curing speed.
    2. When the machine is shut down temporarily, the operation of varnish circulation system should be kept.

6. Cautions:

  • After the application, the clean water can be used for cleaning directly.
  • This product does not contain the organic solvent. It is not self-ignitable, corrosive and explosive. Avoid contacting the skin, eye, and body mucous membrane etc. Use the detergent for cleaning after working for a certain period.
